Selection Of Fertilizer For Nursery

Generally speaking, a good commercial seedling substrate can provide all the nutrients needed before the cotyledons are fully expanded. Because the plug container is small, the rinsing is fast, the pH value of the substrate changes quickly, and the salt is easy to accumulate and damage the roots of the seedlings. Therefore, we have to choose high-quality and stable water-soluble fertilizer as the nutrient supplement after the cotyledons are fully expanded.

Two factors should be considered when choosing fertilizers:

1. The composition of fertilizer itself nitrogen fertilizer: There are three types of nitrogen, which have different effects on plant growth.

2. Depending on the regional environmental conditions and climate, choose different fertilizer formulas.

The adverse effects of high humidity on seedlings are as follows: the internodes are too long, the stems are too thin, the branches are few, and the roots produced are also few. At the same time, the absorption of calcium by roots under high humidity conditions will be reduced because of the influence of environmental humidity on vegetable seedlings: high humidity and poor ventilation can easily induce diseases. Conversely, if the environmental humidity is too low, the plant's transpiration will be too vigorous under the environment of high temperature and strong light, and the water absorbed by the roots of the plant will not be enough to replenish the water lost by the leaves, and the stomata will be closed to protect the plant from losing water excessive. The closure of the stomata also prevents carbon dioxide from entering the plant, so photosynthesis will also stop and the plant will stop growing.

Under low humidity conditions, the transpiration of plug seedlings is accelerated, which promotes the absorption of calcium and magnesium by plants. In the state of lack of water, the stomata will close. Stop growing, so low humidity will make the stalks thicker, more stress-resistant, and better root development.

Therefore, it is necessary to prevent the appearance of calcium deficiency and magnesium deficiency in continuous cloudy days, and promptly supplement with leaf surface.

The normal leaf color should be pure green. If the lower leaves turn yellow, it means that the plant has insufficient nutrients or the root system is injured. Dark green leaves indicate too much ammonium fertilizer. Light green leaves indicate nitrogen deficiency, ammonium poisoning or magnesium deficiency.
